FAITH FORMATION - MOTHERS' GROUP
Hello! And welcome! Whether you’re a new mom, or just new to the area, the Good Shepherd Mothers' Group has something for you. We’re all moms who’ve been there, have answers to your questions, and want to offer you our friendship and support. So read all about us below, give us a call, or simply come check us out at our next weekly meeting: every Wednesday morning in the Parlor Lounge from 9:45-11:00 am. Child care is available. Hope to see you and God Bless.
Moderator: Jessica Navarro, (703) 780-3370, jnavarro412@gmail.com
About Us: For over twenty years, the Good Shepherd Mothers' Support Group has existed to provide a casual network of support for mothers in the parish and Mount Vernon community. The group enables us to grow spiritually, intellectually and socially.
Weekly Meetings: (Sept-May) Hosted by the Moderator, most meetings include a presentation by an outside speaker on a topic of interest to mothers. Some of our past topics included: Raising Resilient Children, Mommy 911, and Sibling Rivalry. Typically about 15-25 mothers attend the meeting. Walking children are encouraged to play in the supervised nursery for $2.00. Children aged three and older may participate in making a craft for $2.00. Babies and pre-walkers are more than welcome at the meeting. Check out our detailed nursery guidelines. Meetings are followed by a rosary for anyone interested.
Get Involved: Our activities and events could not happen without volunteers. To find out how to get involved, download “How Can I Help” or pick up a copy at a weekly meeting.
Weekly Updates: Members are kept informed of upcoming meetings and events via our Yahoo Group. To join, visit groups.yahoo.com/group/GSMomsGroup. It's simple to sign up and takes five minutes or less! Even if you cannot attend the weekly meetings, we recommend that you join the Yahoo Group to stay informed about our many events and activities.
Playgroups: Playgroups are organized by age (0-1, 1-2, 2-3, and 3+ years old) and typically meet once a week at a host mother’s choice of location.
Meals for Moms: Group members receive home-cooked meals for two weeks after their baby is born.
Charitable Activities: Includes monetary donations, toy and pajama drives, and visits to local nursing homes.
Holiday Brunches: In lieu of meetings, mom’s volunteer to organize pot luck holiday brunches for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Mother’s Day in Creedon Hall. (Children participate in Halloween and Easter).
Sponsored Events: Members volunteer to conduct major Parish events including: fall and spring rummage sales, Nativity Breakfast, and the International Festival’s children’s games.
Just For Moms: Monthly mom’s nights outs, movie night, book club, and Bunco are hosted by moms at various locations. In addition, couples events are held twice a year…so Dad gets to have some fun too!
Summer Calendar: (June-August) Once the summer arrives….we don’t stop! The activities continue with summer lunch bunches on Wednesdays at local parks. Summer outings for the kids are also scheduled and have included trips to National Zoo, Mt. Vernon, and the Baltimore Science Museum.
